New Attorney Professionalism Requirement
Click here to view FAQs about the New Admittee Professionalism Program
All active members admitted to the North Carolina State Bar after January 1, 2011, must complete the North Carolina State Bar New Admittee Professionalism Program in the year the member is first required to meet CLE requirements. Credit for the program will be applied to your annual mandatory continuing legal education requirements. If you were licensed in another state for 5 or more years at the time you were admitted to the NC Bar, you are exempt from the requirement; however, you must notify the State Bar of the exemption in the first annual report form sent to you.
Below are the dates for upcoming programs. You will need to contact the sponsor directly to register for the course:
North Carolina Advocates for Justice
April 17-18, 2012
Mecklenburg County Bar
April 27-28, 2012
North Carolina Bar Association
May 9-10, 2012
December 5-6, 2012
Notices to Show Cause
The Board of CLE will be issuing notices to show cause to attorneys in a few weeks who have failed to complete their 2011 CLE requirements, including returning the 2011 Annual Report Form and completing the required hours. Once a notice to show cause is issued, whether for failure to return the form or to complete the required hours, a $125 penalty fee is assessed.
Online Courses
- Attorneys may take up to four (4) hours of CLE credit through online courses for each compliance year.
- If an attorney takes more than four (4) online hours in one compliance year, any hours over the four allowed will be applied to the following compliance year and may result in compliance problems.
