New Attorney Professionalism Requirement

All active members admitted to the North Carolina State Bar after January 1, 2011, must complete the North Carolina State Bar Professionalism for New Admittees program in the year the member is first required to meet CLE requirements. Credit for the program will be applied to your annual mandatory continuing legal education requirements. If you were licensed in another state for 5 or more years at the time you were admitted to the NC Bar, you are exempt from the requirement; however, you must notify the State Bar of the exemption in the first annual report form sent to you.
Below are the dates for upcoming programs. You will need to contact the sponsor directly to register for the course:
Mecklenburg County Bar
September 27 - 28, 2013, Charlotte
NC Advocates for Justice
Nov. 20 - 21, 2013, Raleigh
North Carolina Bar Association
May 14-15, 2013, Cary
July 13, 2013, Cary (this course is from 7 AM - 8 PM instead of a two-day program)
August 1 - 2, 2013, Gastonia
August 15 - 16, 2013, Cary
Online Courses
- Attorneys may take up to four (4) hours of CLE credit through online courses for each compliance year.
- If an attorney takes more than four (4) online hours in one compliance year, any hours over the four allowed will be applied to the following compliance year and may result in compliance problems.
